About this car
This white over dark blue low-grille W111 coupe runs and drives but needs cosmetic and mechanical attention. It is the most accessible way into these hand-built coupes, and the desirable sunroof and Behr air conditioning are already fitted. It is by far the cheapest of the 280SE coupes in this collection. The question at inspection is how much of the needed attention is mechanical and how much is cosmetic.
What the photos show
- White paint looks clean and straight but a little dull, so a polish is cheap money before any paint talk.
- Chrome grille, bumpers and arch trim look bright, so no rechrome bill shows.
- Sunroof panel is shown in the roof close-up and sits flush, so no obvious sunroof panel repair shows.
- Dark blue seats show creasing and wear, especially the driver seat, so budget for leather conditioning or a partial recover.
- Dash wood looks glossy across the front, but the A-pillar wood trim is cracked and crazed, so some wood repair money is coming.
- Dash and gauges look complete, so you are not hunting missing dash parts.
- Trunk floor is painted black and looks solid, so no obvious trunk rust repair is visible.
- Engine bay is complete but the wiring looks messy and the bay is dirty, so budget for a service and tidy-up.
- Underside on the lift looks dirty with surface rust and a rusty exhaust, so budget for exhaust work and a clean underneath.
- Front wheel arch shows dirt and surface corrosion in the last photo, so check the arches closely before paying.
- Steel wheels with full hubcaps and tires look presentable, so no immediate tire spend shows.
- Two of the 41 gallery links are social share pages, not photos, so the real photo count is lower than listed.
Money: At $29,950 the straight white body and complete dash help, but worn blue leather, cracked pillar wood, messy engine bay and rusty exhaust mean driver-project money, not finished money.
