About this car
This 1966 230SL is offered on eBay by beverlyhillscarclub in Los Angeles, CA. The asking price is $39,950. The car is finished in White over green, an automatic gearbox. The listing does not state a mileage. As with any Pagoda, the floors, sills and spare-wheel well deserve a close look for rust, and the soft-top frame and hardtop seals are worth checking.
What the photos show
- white paint looks glossy and straight in the walk-around, so no repaint bill shows in these photos
- chrome bumpers and grille shine bright, with no pitting visible, so rechroming can wait
- the black soft top sits taut but its rear window is wrinkled and wavy, so budget for a window or top refresh
- a matching white hardtop is shown fitted and looks clean, which saves hunting one down later
- pale yellow-green seats look intact with no tears showing, so no reupholster bill yet
- carpets and floor mats look brown, worn and dirty, so a deep clean or new carpet set is money to plan
- the trunk floor is badly rusted in streaks across the black paint, so expect trunk metal repair money
- the engine bay inner wings are peeling and corroded under the tidy-looking engine, so bay rust work is coming
- rust is visible hanging below the rear sill by the back wheel, so check the rockers before paying
- can't judge the full underside — no underside photo in the sampled set, so a lift inspection is money well spent
Money: at $39,950 the pretty paint hides real rust in the trunk floor and engine bay — price it as a project Pagoda, not a finished one.

Condition: 1966 Mercedes Benz 230L This pagoda is a running and driving project that was delivered from the factory in what I think is the best color combination of Silver on dark blue. This unit is equipped with a manual gearbox and is generally solid. It will need some rust repair in floor pan but is otherwise quite straight. Obviously, the paint is shot and the interior will need to be redone. A previous owner fitted a 280 badge but I have confirmed with Mercedes classic that the car is a 230 and have a copy of the cardex.
